BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team defeated Mount St. Joseph 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 24. It marked the first time ever in women's soccer that the Beavers have knocked off the Lions in their 14-match history. Bluffton improved to 4-1-1 this season with a 1-0 mark in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) while Mt. St. Joseph fell to 0-1 in conference action with a 1-6-1 record overall.

After an own goal by the Lions in the 18th minute, Bluffton's MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) connected with senior standout KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) for a 2-0 lead at the 23:33 mark. Unable to penetrate the Beaver defense in the second half despite a 9-6 edge in shots, the home team buried its third and final goal from TAYLOR FULTZ(Camden/Preble Shawnee) in the 87th minute of the match. Fultz created Bluffton's first score when she beat the MSJ keeper and her shot, which pegged the left post, deflected off a Mount defender into the net.

Fultz lead the Beavers with five shots while teammate JESSICA RAMIREZ (Archbold) produced three shots for Bluffton. Sophomore keeper MAGGIE ARMSTRONG (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland Co.) came up with six saves in the win.

Bluffton took 17 shots in the contest while MSJ tallied 14 shots. The Beavers forced two more corner kicks than the Lions (7-5) and were whistled for seven fouls, compared to two from the visitors.

The Bluffton University women's soccer team will host Capital University on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The match is slated for 4 p.m.
