Rose-Holman scores late goal in 1-1 tie with Bluffton

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team tied Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in double overtime on Saturday, Sept. 29. Both teams scored a goal in the 110-minute match. Bluffton University's record moved to 2-6-1 and 0-0-1 in the Heartland Conference. Rose-Hulman now stands at 5-4-2 and 0-0-1 in the HCAC.

Bluffton scored its goal at the 35:20 mark when freshman Laura Fish (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) put the ball in the back of the net for her team-best fifth tally of the season. The Beavers held onto that lead until late in the match when RHIT finally got on the scoreboard.

Rose-Hulman's goal came with just six minutes left. HALEY O'NEIL buried the equalizer with the assist coming from KATIE DEMOSS. Neither side was able to capitalize in the extra time as both teams settled for their first tie of the season.

Rose-Hulman fired one more shot (14-13) than the Beavers. The Engineers forced six more corner kicks than Bluffton (9-3). Bluffton was whistled for one more foul (8-7) than RHIT. The Beavers were led by junior Aimee Whitmer (Grand Rapids/Otsego) with four shots. Fish took three shots as well as scoring the Beavers' only goal. Junior keeper MAGGIE ARMSTRONG(Vevay, Ind./Switzerland Cty.) collected six saves for the visitors.

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they host HCAC rival Mount St. Joseph. The contest with the Lions is slated to start at 4 p.m.
