October 12, 2016

BLUFFTON, Ohio - For the second straight match, the Bluffton University women's soccer team welcomed a foe with a perfect mark in the Heartland Conference. The Beavers fell behind 2-0 in the first half, but the home team kept MSJ off the scoreboard in the final 45 minutes as the Lions improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0 in the HCAC. Bluffton fell to 0-9 on the season with a 0-4 mark in the conference.

EMMA ROTH and PAIGE MERSMANN hit paydirt midway through the first period, putting the Lions up 2-0 in minute 37. The defenses took center stage as that was the end of the scoring in MSJ's 2-0 shutout of Bluffton at the Sears Complex on a windy but comfortable Wednesday afternoon.

Junior two-sport standout BRITTANY HUFF (Union/Northmont) paced the Bluffton offense with three shots, including one on frame. Freshman keeper COURTNEY DAVIS (Richmond, MI/Richmond) notched four saves for the Beavers.

The Mount forced all six corner kicks in the match while being whistled for nine more fouls (12-3) than the Beavers. MSJ finished with 14 shots, compared to three for the home team.

Bluffton makes the long trip to Hanover College for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 15.
