Beavers notch tie with Olivet in season opener

OLIVET, Mich. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team secured a 1-1 tie at Olivet in 2024 season opener on Saturday, August 31. The Beavers and Comets both stand 0-0-1 after the opening weekend of D3 collegiate action.

All of the scoring came in a four-minute span late in the first half as sophomore Mya Vernon (Toledo/Central Catholic) put the visitors up 1-0 at the 30:49 mark. Olivet bounced right back in minute 35 with the equalizer and that was the end of the scoring.

Bluffton finished with an 18-10 advantage in total shots, including 11-5 on frame. The visitors forced eight of the the 10 corner kicks Saturday afternoon and the Beavers also finished with two nore fouls, 7-5.

Freshman Riley Eachus (Bluffton) paced the offense with four shots, including two on frame. Vernon and Alyssa Kester (Centerville) added three shots apiece. 

Senior keeper Brielle Collier (Anna) racked up four saves for the Beavers.

Bluffton will welcome another MIAA squad on Wednesday, Sept. 4 for the home opener. Kickoff with St. Mary's College is slated for 4 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
