BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team scored two times in the second half for a 2-1 win over St. Mary's College on a toasty Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024. The Beavers improved to 1-0-1 with a victory in the home opener, while SMC fell to 0-2 on the season.
The visitors went up 1-0 in the 12th minute when Grace Barresi found the back of the net. The Belles forged an 8-1 advantage in shots during the first 45 minutes, but it was still a one-goal game at the break.
Bluffton netted the equalizer early in the second stanza when Mya Vernon (Toledo/Central Catholic) connected with fellow sophomore Morgan Jarvis (Powell/Dublin Scioto). Jarvis drilled a beauty into the upper left corner!
It was still 1-1 when freshman Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) gathered a rebound and hit paydirt with the game winner at the 79:13 mark.
St. Mary's College piled up a 22-7 advantage in total shots, but the Beavers took advantage of their opportunities by splitting the pipes twice. Each squad forced just one corner kick and both teams were whistled for five fouls.
Senior net-minder Brielle Collier (Anna) racked up 10 saves for the home team.
Bluffton travels to Great Lakes Christian for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Crusaders on Saturday, Sept. 7.
