Great Lakes scores late for 2-1 win over Bluffton

LANSING, Mich. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, at Great Lakes Christian on a beautiful Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. Bluffton slipped to 1-1-1, while the home team improved to 3-0-3 on the season.

The Crusaders jumped out quickly with a Meela York goal just over seven minutes into the match. Bluffton bounced back, knotting at 1-1 in minute 34 when Alyssa Kester (Centerville) hit paydirt. 

It was stil 1-1 for over 40 minutes, but GLCC broke the tie thanks to an Amy Benitez tally with less than 12 minutes to play.

Great Lakes piled up a 15-6 advantage in shots, including 12-5 on frame. Bluffton was called for three more fouls (5-2) and the Crusaders forced one more corner kick (2-1).

Rilynn Kaufmann (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) put both of her shots on frame. Fellow senior Brielle Collier (Anna) was busy in the net, finishing with 10 saves on Saturday afternoon.

Bluffton jumps right back into action on Monday, Sept. 9, when the Beavers travel to long-time rival Defiance College for a non-conference clash with the Yellow Jackets.
