Second half goal sends Clermont to 3-2 win over Beavers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to UC-Clermont under the lights at Alumni Field on a beautiful Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. The home team fell to 2-2-1 overall, while Clermont upped its mark to 3-1-2.

After 38 scoreless minutes, UC-Clermont found the back of the twice in less than two minutes. However, the Beavers responded just as quickly, netting itheir first score at the 40:15 mark before knotting it up 2-2 less than a minute and a half later.

The score was still deadlocked until Brooklyn Applegate drilled the would-be game winner with just under 30 minutes to play.

Freshman Katie Singleton (Hamilton/Badin) and Parker Penhorwood (Bellefontaine) both netted tallies for the Beavers, while Ella Argo (Ashland) and senior Brittney Ramirez (Archbold) chipped in with assists.

Clermont finished with four more shots (19-15), but Bluffton put one more on frame (9-8). The Beavers picked up two more fouls (10-8) and both teams forced three corner kicks.

Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) led the way with three shots, including two on target. Senior keeper Brielle Collier (Anna) came up with five saves for the home team.

Bluffton welcomes Muskingum University from the Ohio Athletic Conference for a 1 p.m. matchup at the Sears Complex on Saturday, Sept. 14.
