RHIT downs Bluffton 2-0 in HCAC opener

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team welcomed Rose-Hulman to Alumni Field for the Heartland Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. The contest was moved to the turf due to heavy rainfall throughout the week. Rose moved to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Bluffton fell to 3-4-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

Although Rose had scored just three goals on the season, all in a 3-1 victory over Greenville, the Engineers have played a nationally-recognized schedule and they were ready for a breakout match. Katie Choi and Camille Clark both found the back of the net in the first half and that would be the story as the visitors secured a 2-0 victory on Saturday in Bluffton.

The Engineers dominated the first half with a 19-2 advantage in shots on the way to a 30-7 edge for the match. Freshman Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) led the home team with two shots, both on frame.

Senior Brielle Collier (Anna) knocked away shot after shot from RHIT, finishing the match with a whopping 18 saves. Rose finished with a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks and it was whistled for three more fouls (6-3).

Bluffton will return to the pitch next Saturday, Oct. 5, when the Beavers travel to HCAC-heavyweight Hanover College for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Panthers.
