CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a 10-1 decision at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024. Bluffton slipped to 4-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the Heartland Conference, while the Lions improved to 8-3-4 with a 6-0-1 mark at the top of the HCAC.
Mount St. Joseph led 3-0 when freshman Kate Stephens (Trenton/Edgewood) got the Beavers on the scoreboard at the 36:46 mark of the first half. The score remained 3-1 until early in the second frame, but the host Lions broke it open with seven tallies over the final 45 minutes en route to the 10-1 victory.
MSJ finished with a 19-6 edge in total shots, including 15-2 on frame. The Lions forced eight of the 10 corner kicks on Wednesday night and they were whistled for seven more fouls (13-6).
Senior Rilynn Kaufmann (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) led the Beavers with a pair of shot attempts. Brielle Collier (Anna) turned away five Mount shots.
Bluffton will get an extra day to recover with Transylvania University coming to the Sears Complex for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. with the introductions scheduled to take place at 1:35 p.m.
