Women tune up for HCAC at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's swimming team tuned up for the Heartland Conference Championships with a Saturday matchup against NCAA Division II heavyweights Ashland and Findlay.

Senior stalwart Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) established a new school mark with a time of 1:13.43 good for 5th place in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also eclipsed her previous school mark with a time of 1:00.51 in the 100-yard freestyle.

MacKenzie Martin (Hartville/Lake) timed a 2:49.10 in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday. Kleman went 2:39.60 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Martin and Brooke Barnes (Ashland/Crestview) both competed in the 500-yard freestyle, showing their stamina on Saturday afternoon.

Martin, Barnes, Kleman and Flor Avilez (Santa Lucia, Honduras/Dowal School) finished with a time of 2:30.44 in the 200-yard medley relay.

The women will tie a bow on their inaugural season when they head to Rose-Hulman for the Heartland Conference Championships on Thursday, Feb. 10, the first of three days which will determine the top individuals and team in the HCAC.
