Kleman powers Bluffton on day one of HCAC

 

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's swimming team kicked off its first-ever trip to the Heartland Conference Championships with a bang on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. Day one of the three-day event saw another record-breaking performance for the Beavers who are currently in fifth place among the seven women's teams competing at Rose-Hulman!

Senior Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) found her way to the podium with a 4th place finish in the 200 IM on Thursday night! She also established a new school mark in the 200 IM for the second time in the past two weeks. Kleman's time of 2:16.52 broke the previous school record by over five seconds.

Kleman also helped the women to 22 points in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Joining her on the 6th place finish were MacKenzie Martin (Hartville/Lake), Brooke Barnes (Ashland/Crestview) and Isabel Miller (Dayton/Centerville). Their time of 5:03.69 is also a school record for the Beavers.

Miller, Alejandra Valenzuela (Lima, Honduras/Santa Maria del Valle), Grace Branson (Carlisle) and Flor Avilez (Santa Lucia, Honduras/Dowal School) collected another 22 points with a sixth place showing in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Bluffton will be back in the water at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, when day two of the HCAC Championships commence. The Beavers hold a two-point lead over Manchester while there is a comfortable 37-point spread between Bluffton and Hanover!
