Bluffton wraps up first HCAC Swimming & Diving Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University Women's Swimming & Diving Team held off Manchester to take 5th place out of seven teams when the Heartland Conference Championships came to a close on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. It marked a record-setting weekend for the women who were competing in the HCAC Championships for the first time in school history.

Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) found herself on the podium for the third straight day following a fifth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke on Saturday. Her time of 2:35.66 chalked up 12 points and was just off her school-record mark of 2:32.65 set in the preliminaries.

The 400 yard freestyle relay also hit up the podium with a school-record time of 5:24.40! Kleman, Alejandra Valenzuela (Lima, Honduras/Santa Maria del Valle), Grace Branson (Carlisle) and Flor Avilez (Santa Lucia, Honduras/Dowal School) collected another 22 points.

Bluffton put a bow on its first season in the pool. The future is bright for Head Coach Ben Rath after an HCAC Championship that saw Bluffton take fifth place from the Vigo Schools Aquatic Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
