Beavers battle Spartans and Grizzlies

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Bluffton University Swimming and Diving Team hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Franklin for a tri-meet with the host Grizzlies and Manchester University on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024.

Freshman Jami Baker (Lowell, Ind.) captured a pair of third place finishes as well as a fourth place in the 200 yard IM (2:35.81). She went 1:10.82 in the 100 yard butterfly after a 1:11.77 in the 100 yard backstroke. Also notching a bronze in the 200 yard butterfly was sophomore Havin Montague (Celina).

Showing out in the 1000 yard freestyle was junior Sydney Grisier (Bryan) who placed third all-time with a 15:56.97 at Franklin on Saturday.

Freshman Landon Gardner (Whitehall, Mich./Grand Haven) established a new school record in the 200 yard breaststroke, swimming it in 2:58.12 against a talented field of Heartland Conference athletes.

The men's relay teams had a solid day, placing 6th in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 200 yard medley. Justin Hassranah (Cunupia, Trinidad and Tobago/Vishnu Boys Hindu College), Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local), Gardner and Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) moved to second and third all-time in the freestyle (1:55.94) and medley (2:02.76), respectively.

Patton's 2:28.44 in the 200 yard backstroke was fifth at Franklin and fifth all-time for the Beavers.

Bluffton will be back in the pool when it travels to Wittenberg for a meeting with the Tigers and Heartland Conference rival Anderson University on Saturday, Nov. 9.
