Bluffton gets first HCAC win of season with 3-1 route of Manchester

Bluffton College kicked off the 2001 Heartland Conference schedule Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at Manchester College.

BC was coming off three losses at the Otterbein Invitational over the weekend and dropped the first game against Manchester 30-22, but came roaring back to win the next three games 30-19, 30-22, 30-24 for their fifth overall win of the season. The Beavers are now 5-9 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC.

Senior Mandy Pequignot led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills, while freshman Courtney Tisher collected eight kills and senior Jaime Frisk had seven.

Pequignot, Tisher and sophomore Jenae Meck all had five blocks on the defensive side. Six BC players registered double-digit digs, including senior Erica Jellison with 19, sophomore Erin Cooper with 16, senior Lisa Rathburn with 13, Frisk with 12, freshman Jill Rothe with 11 and junior Janelle Beck with 10.

Jellison notched 27 assists in the match and served three aces, as did Frisk.

Bluffton will travel to Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday.
