October 2, 2001

The Bluffton College volleyball team traveled to central Ohio for three non-conference matches last week, highlighted by a 3-1 victory at Ohio Wesleyan University on Sept. 25. BC dropped two five-game matches at Denison University on Saturday to see their overall record move to 6-14.

On Sept. 29 senior outside hitter Mandy Pequignot became the eighth player in the history of BC volleyball to collect over 1,000 career kills. Her total of 1,020 is now seventh in school history, and her career hitting percentage of over .270 is already a Bluffton record.

Bluffton remains atop the Heartland Conference standings with a 1-0 league mark, and will put that record to the test with an HCAC match at Franklin College on Wednesday. BC has this weekend off and will return to action next Thursday night in Founders Hall for an HCAC contest against Anderson University at 7:00.

BC dropped the first game at OWU 27-30, but came back to win three straight games 30-16, 30-28, 30-28 to take the win. Senior Jaime Frisk had a big night with six aces, 34 digs, seven kills, four assists and a block. Pequignot slammed 17 kills and senior Erica Jellison collected 40 assists, 24 digs and four aces. Freshman Courtney Tisher added five blocks and senior Lisa Rathburn had 30 digs.

At Denison University on Saturday, Bluffton came out on the short side of two five-game matches as the Beavers fell to Denison and Marietta.

Against Denison, Frisk collected a career-high 16 kills and notched a team-high 32 digs. She was one of three BC players with double-digit kills, the other two being Pequignot with 17 and Tisher with 11. Jellison had 45 assists and 31 digs. Tisher and freshman Jill Rothe both had six blocks.

Four Beavers collected 10 or more kills against Marietta, including Pequignot with 17, Rothe with 16, Frisk with 14 and Tisher with 10. Jellison put up a season-high 54 assists, while Rathburn led the way with four aces and 33 digs.
