Bluffton topples Anderson 3-2

Bluffton College scored an impressive victory Thursday night in Founders Hall as the Beavers defeated Anderson University 3-2 (30-27, 30-25, 19-30, 23-30, 15-12).

Anderson entered the game with a 20-4 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in the Heartland Conference to share the league lead with The College of Mount St. Joseph.

With the win Bluffton snaps Anderson's 16-game winning streak and improves to 7-15 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC.

Bluffton won the first two games of the match before Anderson came back to tie the match at two games apiece. BC won the fifth game 15-12 to claim the victory.

Four Bluffton players collected double-digit kills in the match, led by senior Jaime Frisk (Wooster) with 13. Frisk also had a team-high 28 digs.

Senior Mandy Pequignot (DeGraff/Indian Lake) and freshman Courtney Tisher (Rittman) both had 12 kills and freshman Jill Rothe (Wapakoneta/St. Mary's) had 11. Senior Erica Jellison (Van Wert) registered 42 assists. Pequignot added a team-high eight blocks.

Anderson was led by Audra Hodge with 26 kills and 21 digs. Jeremi Mitchel had 72 assists and 23 digs.

 


Jaime Frisk led Bluffton with 13 kills and 28 digs Thursday night.

 
Mandy Pequignot collected 12 kills in the win over Anderson.
