October 22, 2001

The Bluffton College volleyball team made short work of a visiting Hanover College squad on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers took a 3-0 victory on Parents Day in Founders Hall.

Bluffton is now in the middle of a four-way tie for second place in the Heartland Conference with a 3-2 league record. BC is 8-18 overall and was to have traveled to Defiance on Wednesday night. The Beavers will play at the Calvin College Invitational this weekend before returning home on Monday night to take on Thomas More College at 7:00 p.m. in Founders Hall.

Senior Jaime Frisk led the way against Hanover with nine kills, two aces, four blocks and 20 digs, bringing her season total in that department to 478, which leads the HCAC. Senior Mandy Pequignot collected a team-high 12 kills against the Panthers to bring her season total to 318, which ranks in the top-five in the conference. Senior Erica Jellison added 32 more assists to her season total of 766, which is also ranked in the top-five in the league.

Last Tuesday night BC came up a bit short in their effort to defeat the nation's #4 ranked squad in NCAA Division III as The College of Mount St. Joseph handed the Beavers a 3-0 loss in Founders Hall. Pequignot led BC with 11 kills and seven blocks, while Frisk added six kills and 17 digs.

Three BC players have already hit the 30-ace plateau, including Jellison (39), Frisk (32) and senior Lisa Rathburn (30), who also ranks among the league's dig leaders with 442. Pequignot also leads BC in blocks with 73, while freshman Courtney Tisher isn't far behind with 70 rejections.
