Four seniors led the Bluffton College volleyball team this season and have ended their careers in the record books. Jaime Frisk, Erica Jellison, Mandy Pequignot, and Lisa Rathburn all have ended their BC careers with stats that will be written for years to come. These players now take a look back at what will be a memorable career for each of them.
"It is a great feeling to be among the best in Bluffton history," said Lisa Rathburn, who is a senior communication major from Mansfield (St. Peters H.S.). Rathburn was a defensive specialist this season for the beavers. She collected 525 digs this season, which is the 11th best single season total in BC history. In her career, Rathburn collected 1,158 digs, which ranks 18th in the Bluffton all-time in the record book. Rathburn notched career-best numbers in aces, as well. Her 38 aces ranked third on the team this season and nearly equaled the ace total from her first three seasons combined (42). Rathburn played in 348 games in her career at Bluffton and added 82 kills, 27 assists and seven blocks.
"I am really excited about breaking records. It always feels good to go down in history," said Mandy Pequignot, who is an elementary education and special education major from DeGraff (Indian Lake H.S.). Pequignot was named first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the third straight year. A four-year varsity letter winner, Pequignot played in 417 games in her career, which ranks 14th in the BC career record book. She set BC records for career kills per game (2.80 kpg) and hitting percentage (.252), while her 1,167 career kills ranks fourth all-time and her 261 blocks ranks 13th. Pequignot notched career-best numbers in digs (342) and blocks (88), as well. Last season as a junior she led the HCAC in kills with 423. She was twice selected as the HCAC Player of the Week and holds the BC record for kills in a match with 26.
"When you play, you never think of records, but when it is all over, it is good to have accomplished something," said Erica Jellison, who is a senior social work major from Van Wert (Crestview H.S.). Jellison ranked second on Bluffton's career assist list. Her four-year total of 2,728 assists is second only to the 4,275 assists of Jayne Miller (1995-98). Jellison played in 377 games in her career and owns three of the nine best single season assist totals in school history. She also led Bluffton in service aces the last two seasons and she ranks 10th all-time at BC in career aces (129) and aces per game (.34). In addition, Jellison's 1,213 career digs ranks 19th all-time at Bluffton.
"With the great players that have came through Bluffton, it is good to be among the best," said senior Jaime Frisk, an elementary education major from Wooster (Wooster H.S.). Frisk was a defensive specialist who collected a team-high 617 digs this season, which is the fifth best single season total in BC history. Her 5.27 digs per game average led the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and ranked fifth in the nation. A four-year starter, Frisk played in 507 games in her career, which ranks sixth in the BC career record book. She collected 1,299 digs, which ranks 12th all-time, and her 129 service aces ranks 10th. Frisk finished her career with 258 kills, 55 blocks, and 1299 in digs, which most of the numbers where obtained during her senior season.
