Bluffton now 3-7 after Wooster Invitational

The Bluffton College volleyball team had a positive showing at 16th ranked Ohio Northern University last Wednesday and won a pair of matches at the Wooster Invitational over the weekend to finish in sixth place. The Beavers are now 3-7 overall and will compete in the Otterbein Invitational this weekend.

Bluffton will host Ohio Wesleyan University on Wed., Sept. 18 in Founders Hall at 7 p.m. in the Beavers' 2002 home opener.

Against Ohio Northern, Bluffton became just the second squad this season to score over 20 points in all three games against the #16 Polar Bears, but BC fell 23-30, 23-30, 27-30. Sophomore Courtney Tisher collected a team-high 12 kills and six blocks and freshman Keri Kuhlman had 10 kills. Junior Erin Cooper totaled 19 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Erin Kreim tallied a team-high 12 digs.

Bluffton began the Wooster Invitational with a three-game loss to Capital (12-30, 26-30, 21-30) as Tisher totaled eight kills and sophomore Kelly Kettinger notched 18 digs. The Beavers rebounded with a five-game win over Marietta (30-25, 21-30, 22-30, 30-24, 16-14). Kuhlman and Tisher both had 13 kills and junior Jenae Meck posted a career-high 11 kills. Cooper and freshman Leslie Overmyer led the team in assists with 20 and 15, respectively, while sophomore Karah Weldy collected seven service aces, which is just one shy of the BC record. Kreim led the way with 19 digs and Tisher added seven blocks.

The Beavers then played three matches on Saturday, beginning with a three-game loss to Wesminster (18-30, 36-38, 23-30). Kuhlman collected nine kills, Cooper and Overmyer both had 12 assists and Kreim added 13 digs. BC came back to earn a three-game victory over Wilmington as Kreim established new career-bests with 10 kills and 17 digs. Overmyer led the squad with 19 assists and Weldy served six aces. Bluffton closed out the tournament with a five-game loss to Marietta (26-30, 30-23, 30-27, 23-30, 15-9) despite 15 kills from Kuhlman, 14 kills from sophomore Jill Rothe, and a new career high 32 digs for Kreim.
