One record fell and another record is close to falling as a pair of Bluffton College freshman volleyball players are already making a name for themselves in the BC volleyball record book.

At the Calvin Invitational last weekend, freshman setter Leslie Overmyer collected nine service aces in a five-game loss to Albion College to break the record of eight aces held by four players, including Sarah Schaeffer, Mandy Trenkamp, Jayne Miller and Jaime Frisk.

A single-season record for freshmen is close to falling as middle hitter Keri Kuhlman has now collected 236 kills, which are just 22 kills shy of the record set by Deb Wagner Hucke with 258 when she was a freshman in 1986.

At Calvin, Bluffton took three of their four opponents to five games but came out with an 0-4 record to see their season record slip to 10-22 overall. The Beavers are 2-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to remain in fifth place and have upcoming HCAC matches against Anderson (Oct. 29), at Hanover (Nov. 2) and at Mt. St. Joseph (Nov. 5) before entering the HCAC tournament on Nov. 9.

Sophomore Karah Weldy owns an HCAC-best 75 service aces this season, which is the seventh highest single-season total in BC history.

Other team statistical leaders include sophomore Courtney Tisher in kills (289), hitting percentage (.230) and total blocks (94). Junior Erin Cooper leads the team in assists with 568 and sophomore Erin Kreim has a team-high 485 digs.
