Steve Yarnell named head volleyball coach

Volleyball coach Steve Yarnell BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University has announced that Steve Yarnell has accepted the position of head volleyball coach beginning with the 2005-06 academic year. Yarnell will also assume duties as an instructor in the health, physical education and recreation department.

Yarnell graduated from the University of Findlay in 2003 with a bachelor's of science degree in physical education. He will complete his master's degree from Findlay in July of 2005 in education with a technology emphasis.

Yarnell has recently been the first assistant coach for the men's and women's volleyball programs at the University of Findlay in 2004. Before that Yarnell was the graduate assistant for the men's volleyball program at Findlay.

"We are excited about the enthusiasm, expertise and passion that Steve will bring to Bluffton," athletics director Phill Talavinia said. "His knowledge and willingness to be highly involved in clubs, junior olympics and volleyball camps will be a great asset to build upon for the future."

Yarnell was a varsity volleyball player at Findlay from 2000-03. He was honored as academic all-conference his junior and senior seasons as well as being named to two all-tournament teams as a player during his career. Yarnell was also a gold medal winner as he played volleyball in the Australia Down Under Games volleyball squad.

Yarnell has been highly active in the local volleyball scene as he worked extensively with volleyball camps and local volleyball clubs. Yarnell, an impact certified coach, is a member of USA Volleyball and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
