Bluffton goes 1-4 in Wooster Tourney

BLUFFTON, Ohio -The Bluffton University volleyball team (4-6) was defeated by Muskingum College in three games on Sept. 9 with the scores of 30-14, 30-10, 30-28. The Beavers also took on Mt. Vernon (15-0) in the second match for the night and fell short in three games 30-25, 30-15, 30-15.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Beavers lost their first match to Saint Mary's 3-0 with the scores of 30-23, 30-22, 30-19.  The Beavers rebounded with a win against West Minister in four games 25-30, 30-28, 30-23, 32-30. In the final match of the weekend the Beavers were defeated by Saint Mary's in four games 21-30, 30-22, 28-30, 17-30.

In the first match of the night junior JEAN BOEN (Wooster/Central Christian) led the Beavers with 15 points and hit .667 percent for the contest. Senior KERI KUHLMAN (Shelby/Shelby) led Bluffton with 12 kills and 31 total attacks. Junior BRITTANY SHULTZ (Hudson, Ind. /Prairie Heigh) also contributed 11 points and 11 digs for the Beavers.

In the second match versus Mt. Vernon, Kuhlman led Bluffton with 11 total kills and 37 total attacks. Boen led the Beavers with .333 hitting percentage and also contributed eight points. Shultz led the team with 17 points and added 11 kills for the evening. Junior KATIE MOORE(Bucyrus/Wynford) led Bluffton with12 kills for the match.

In the first match on Saturday Boen led the Beavers with 18 points and hit .600 percent on the match.  Shultz and Kuhlman both contributed with 11 points.  Sophomore RACHEL ALVAREZ(Convoy/Crestview) led the Beavers with 13 digs for the contest.

In the second match of the day, Kuhlman led the Beavers with 25 kills hitting at .417 percent and had 17 digs on the match. Boen added 23 assists and 17 digs while Shultz had 32 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore MARIEL NASH (Loudonville/Loudonville) also contributed with 13 kills for the match.

The final match of the tourney saw Kuhlman lead the Beavers with 14 kills, 53 total attacks, and 21 digs. Shultz led the team with 17 assists and added 14 digs on the match. Boen led Bluffton with a .500 hitting percentage while contributing with 15 assists. Sophomores KALLA AESCHILMAN (Wauseon/Wauseon) and Alvarez contributed with 10 kills each.

The Beavers return to action Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at home against Ohio Wesleyan with the game starting at 7 p.m.
