Bluffton dominates tri-match at Kenyon

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University (7-6, 0-0 HCAC) volleyball team extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday, September 17 by defeating Bethany College three games to one and Kenyon College also by a total of three games to one.. 


In the first match of the day the Beavers started slow, dropping the first game 20-30 to the Bethany College Bison.  In game two the Beavers came alive, hitting a whopping .343 to role to a 30-26 victory.  Games three and four saw much of the same with the Beavers taking game three 30-17 before a KALLA AESCHLIMAN (So. Wauseon, OH) kill ended the match 30-26 giving the Beavers their sixth win of the 2005 campaign. 

Bluffton was led by the middle hitter tandem of KERI KUHLMAN (Sr. Shelby, OH) and MARIEL NASH (So. Loudonville, OH) with 18 and 15 kills.  Kuhlman also led the team with 6 blocks while chipping in eight digs.  The setting combo of JEAN BOEN (Jr. Wooster, OH) and BRITTANY SCHULTZ (Jr. Hudson, IN) dished out 26 and 22 assists.  Four Beavers had double digit kills with RACHEL ALVAREZ (So. Convoy, OH) leading the way with 23.  KATIE MOORE (Jr. Bucyrus, OH), CHELSEA WYSE (Fr. Archbold, OH) and Schultz tallied 16, 13, and 12 digs respectively. 

Excellent passing and touch serving aided Bluffton in taking game one from Kenyon 30-24.  In game two the Beavers continued where they left off, winning 30-26.  Bluffton led 28-26 in game three before a determined Kenyon squad took the set 40-38.  Bluffton and Kenyon completed their marathon with a Beaver victory in set four by a score of 36-34.

Bluffton was again led by senior middle hitter Keri Kuhlman with 19 kills.  Nash and Aeschliman pounded 14 and 13 kills each with Nash hitting a match high .313.    Moore was stellar from the service line late in the match tallying 5 service aces while adding 16 digs.  Alvarez once again led the Beavers in the backcourt with 29 digs.


The Beavers return home to face Otterbein College in a non-conference matchup on Monday, September 19 in Founders Hall. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
