Beavers handle Oberlin 3-1

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team (11-10) defeated Oberlin (2-13) on October 6, 2005 by a match score of 3-1. Game scores were 28-30, 30-24, 30-17 and 30-25.

Senior KERI KUHLMAN (Shelby/Shelby), who led the Beaver attack with 22 kills and 18 digs, took over fourth place all-time for career kills at Bluffton University when her final spike of the night vaulted her past Mandy Pequignot's (1998-2001) 1167 kills. Sophomore RACHEL ALVAREZ (Convoy/Crestview) turned in another stellar effort as she led the Beavers with 22 digs and registered 11 kills. Junior JEAN BOEN (Wooster/Central Christian) also had tremendous night as she posted 20 digs to spark Bluffton defensively. The Beaver hitters were set up time and again by junior BRITTANY SHULTZ (Hudson, Ind./Prairie Heights) who finished with a team-high 46 assists. Sophomore MARIEL NASH (Loudonville/Loudonville) was a force at the net as she led Bluffton with nine total blocks and put down 11 kills while hitting .280 for the match.

The Beavers will be back in action on Wednesday, October 12 when they travel to Manchester College for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. The first serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
