Beavers drop regular season finale to Defiance 3-1

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team (12-17, 0-7) fell in four games to Defiance College (19-11, 6-1) by scores of 30-20, 22-30, 30-12 and 30-27 on Tuesday, November 1, 2005. The match marked the final regular season contest for the Beavers who will travel to Mount St. Joseph for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, November 5. Bluffton challenged HCAC rival Defiance throughout the match but it could not knock off the experienced Yellow Jackets on their floor.

Senior KERI KUHLMAN (Shelby/Shelby) paced the Beaver spikers with 15 kills to take over sole possession of second place at Bluffton University with 1265 career kills. Kuhlman was one of six Beavers to record double digit digs as she ended the night with ten. Sophomore MARIEL NASH (Loudonville/Loudonville) was a force at the net as she knocked down 14 kills in the loss. The back row for Bluffton was led by freshman libero CHELSEA WYSE (Archbold/Archbold) who racked up 27 digs against the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore RACHEL ALVAREZ(Convoy/Crestview) went to the floor numerous times as she finished with 16 digs. Junior BRITTANY SHULTZ (Hudson, In./Prairie Heights) set up the Bluffton hitters with 34 assists and 18 digs on the night. KATIE MOORE (Bucyrus/Wynford) and KALLA AESCHLIMAN(Wauseon/Wauseon) ended with 11 and ten digs respectively.

The Beavers will return to action this Saturday, November 5 when they face off against HCAC regular season champion Mount St. Joseph. The first serve is scheduled for 12 noon.
