Beavers whip Transy 3-0

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team picked up its second consecutive Heartland Conference victory in as many days with a three game win over Transylvania on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The Beavers improved to 9-17 and 3-2 in the HCAC with game scores of 30-18, 30-22 and 30-27 over the Pioneers who dropped to 7-14, 0-6 HCAC.

The middle hitting tandem of freshmen AUDRA COLEMAN (Lima/Central Catholic) and ANNA VIARS (Lebanon/Lebanon) once again led the way for the Beavers. Coleman pounded 10 kills with only one error for a team-high .474 hitting percentage while Viars countered with 10 kills of her own while hitting .250 for the match. Freshman outside hitter JORDAN SCIFRES(Greenwood, Ind./Lutheran) hit at a .316 clip with eight kills. Her counterparts on the outside, freshman MICHELE ROSEN (Harrison/Harrison) and junior RACHEL ALVAREZ(Convoy/Crestview), ripped the nets for eight kills as well.

Senior setter BRITTANY SHULTZ (Hudson, Ind./Prairie Heights) led the Beavers with 26 assists while CHELSEA WYSE (Archbold/Archbold) chipped in with 14. Freshman libero BRITTANY ROTH (Findlay/Findlay) cleaned up in the back with 10 digs and she made her mark at the service line with five aces. Shultz fired four aces while Wyse and KATIE MOORE(Bucyrus/Wynford) added three apiece.

For the match, the Beavers hit .276 with 50 kills and only 15 errors. Bluffton tallied 16 service aces and finished with five total team blocks in the three-game victory over the Pioneers.

Bluffton hits the court next when it makes the short trip up Interstate 75 where it will face Coach Steve Yarnell's alma mater, the NCAA Division II University of Findlay Oilers, on Tuesday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m.
