Beavers drop HCAC tilt at Transy, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Transylvania University volleyball team used a fast start and solid defense to upset Bluffton in three straight games (30-16, 30-26, 36-34) on Saturday, October 20, 2007. The Pioneers improved to 11-16 overall and 2-4 in the Heartland Conference while Bluffton fell to 10-16 with a 2-4 mark in the HCAC.

Freshman hitter KAYLA PICKERING (Jamestown/Greenview) notched her 12th double-double of the season as she knocked down a team-high 13 kills to go along with her 11 digs. Junior CHELSEA WYSE (Archbold/Archbold) and freshman BRITTANY DUFF(Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) finished the match with 17 and 12 assists, respectively. Defensively, sophomore BRITTANY ROTH(Findlay/Findlay) and freshman SHAUNA ROWLAND(Bucyrus/Wynford) tied for team-high honors with 14 digs each. At the net, freshmen LOGAN LEMASTER (Jamestown/Greenview) and ALLISON STREICHER (Continental/Continental) slowed the Transylvania hitters with three blocks apiece.

The Beavers jump right back into Heartland Conference action when they travel to Manchester on Tuesday, October 23. The match against the Spartans is slated to start at 7 p.m.
