GAMBIER, Ohio - The Bluffton University Beaver volleyball team capped off the second day at the Kenyon College Tournament with two solid wins under its belt, defeating host team Kenyon College 3-1 (19-25, 25-8, 25-11, 25-19) and Ursuline College 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17). With their flawless 4-0 mark on the weekend, the Beavers moved to 7-2 on the season.

The Beavers first opponent of the day was Kenyon College. After a slow start and dropping the first set, the Beavers came alive and only allowed eight Kenyon points in the second set. ALLISON STREICHER (Continental)and HEATHER RODMAN(Mansfield/Mansfield Christian) combined for a powerful offensive effort with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Streicher and Rodman were followed by solid offensive contributions from sophomore trio JENNA ESHLEMAN (Landisville, Penn./Hempfield), COURTNEY ZIMMERMAN (Leesburg/Fairfield), and NICOLE WOOD(Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon), all with eight kills apiece. SHAUNA ROWLAND (Bucyrus/Wynford) paced the impeccable front line by dishing out 43 assists.
Bluffton's defense left Kenyon with few options as senior libero BRITTANY ROTH (Findlay) had 26 digs, Rowland scooped up 19 digs, and Streicher had 13. Rodman also contributed defensively by stopping the Kenyon offense with her seven blocks.

Ursuline College fell to the Beaver attack in the final match of the Kenyon Tournament in three straight sets. The Beavers rolled to victory with a well-rounded effort from several players. Roth, Streicher, and Eshleman had 15 digs each, and junior KAYLA PICKERING (Jamestown/Greenview) tallied 11 digs to anchor Bluffton's successful defense. The Beavers also rifled seven service aces, led by Pickering and sophomore MEGHAN DODSON(Tiffin/Calvert) with two aces each.

Once again, the offense was fueled by Rowland with 35 assists. Wood paced the offense with 13 kills, followed by Streicher with nine, middle hitters Rodman and Zimmerman with six kills apiece, and Rowland with five.

As the Beavers move closer to conference play, their next challenge will be Ohio Northern University. The Polar Bears travel to Founders Hall this Wednesday night for the backyard rivalry match-up with the first serve slated for 7 p.m.
