Bluffton sweeps Denison and Ursuline

GAMBIER, Ohio - Continuing their winning ways, the Bluffton University volleyball team defeated Denison University and Ursuline College at the Kenyon College Tournament. Against Denison, the Beavers won in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-14. In their second match of the evening, they took down Ursuline, also in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14. With the two victories, the Beavers move to an untarnished 8-0.

Against Denison, junior middle hitter COURTNEY ZIMMERMAN(Leesberg/Fairfield) dominated the Big Red as she slammed down 11 kills, giving her a .500 hitting percentage for the match. She was assisted by fellow junior NICOLE WOOD (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) who had 10 kills. Senior ALLISON STREICHER (Continental) and freshman HAILEY PHILLIPS (Malinta/Patrick Henry) contributed six kills each. Senior SHAUNA ROWLAND (Bucyrus/Wynford) led the attack by handing out 36 assists.
 
Senior MANDI LEEMASTER (Fremont/Old Fort) and sophomore HEATHER SCHIERER (Cresent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) anchored the Beaver defense with seven digs apiece. Rowland, Schierer, and Rodman each had a solo block while Phillips contributed two service aces.
 
Versus Ursuline, senior middle hitter HEATHER RODMAN(Mansfield/Mansfield Christian) led the Beavers by smashing 10 kills. Rodman was followed by Wood and Streicher, who had seven and six kills, respectively. Rowland paced the Beaver offense with 26 assists.
 
Junior JENNA ESHLEMAN (Landisville, Penn./Hempfield) led the Beavers' defensive effort with 11 digs, while Rowland contributed six digs. Streicher and Schierer chipped in four digs apiece. Rodman put down one solo block while Schierer served up two service aces and Phillips dished out three service aces.
 
The Beavers return to action Saturday morning when they take on host Kenyon College at 11 a.m. and Otterbein University at 1 p.m.
