Bluffton moves to 13-4 with three-set win over Manchester

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Gaining early momentum in their new pink uniforms worn to recognize Dig Pink Week, the Bluffton University women's volleyball team took down Manchester College in three sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. The Beavers evened their record at 1-1 in conference play (13-4 overall), while the Spartans fell to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in HCAC play.

During Dig Pink night, the Beavers were led by junior NICOLE WOOD (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) as she slammed down 13 kills. Following closely behind was sophomore HEATHER SCHIERER(Crescent Hills, KY./St. Henry) with 11 spikes. Junior middle hitters HEATHER RODMAN (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian) and COURTNEY ZIMMERMAN (Leesburg/Fairfield) also proved to be a force at the net as they had eight and seven kills, respectively. Collectively, Bluffton produced a solid .326 hitting percentage as a team with only 11 hitting errors.
 
Multiple servers contributed to a 10-ace performance from the Beavers, while senior SHAUNA ROWLAND (Bucyrus/Wynford) dished out 33 assists to direct the offense.
 
Defensively, senior MANDI LEEMASTER (Fremont/Old Fort) racked up 14 digs, while fellow senior ALLISON STREICHER (Continental) chipped in seven digs. Zimmerman put up five block assists and Rowland contributed three block assists.
 
The Beavers hit the road Saturday morning when they travel to Indiana to take on the Ravens of Anderson University. Match time is slated for 12 p.m.
