Bluffton hands Ravens first HCAC setback at Anderson

ANDERSON, Indiana - The Beavers traveled to Anderson University on Saturday, October 2,  to compete in their third Heartland Conference match of 2010 against the Ravens and came out victorious in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21. The all-time record between the two teams previously stood at 22-4 in favor of Anderson. The victory now gives the Beavers their fifth win overall, including two straight wins. With the sweep, Bluffton moved to 14-4 overall and 2-1 in HCAC play while Anderson dropped to 9-7 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.

Senior SHAUNA ROWLAND (Bucyrus/Wynford) connected with a variety of hitters as she handed out 33 assists. Senior ALLISON STREICHER (Continental) and junior COURTNEY ZIMMERMAN(Leesburg/Fairfield) each pounded nine kills, followed by junior outside hitter NICOLE WOOD (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) and senior middle HEATHER RODMAN (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian), who both tallied eight kills each. Rowland and sophomore HEATHER SCHIERER (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) rounded out the Beaver attack as they contributed five spikes apiece.

Schierer led the team in digs with 13 while senior MANDI LEEMASTER (Fremont/Old Fort) followed with nine digs. Wood, Rodman, and Zimmerman proved to be a defensive force at the net as they each had three blocks in the winning effort. Rodman also collected one solo stuff. Finally, freshman HAILEY PHILLIPS(Malinta/Patrick Henry) slammed four service aces to seal the deal for the Beavers.

Bluffton's next match is scheduled for this Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. when the Beavers host No. 11 Heidelberg University in Founders Hall.
