BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's volleyball team earned an outstanding victory over the #6 seed Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Tuesday night in the first round of the HCAC post-season tournament. Bluffton, the #3 seed, will advance to take on #2 seed Mt. St. Joseph this Saturday, Nov. 6 in the semi-final round at Transylvania University. The Beavers improved to 23-6 overall, while Rose bowed out of the tournament at 19-10 overall.
A trifecta of hitters led the Beavers as senior ALLISON STREICHER (Continental) along with juniors NICOLE WOOD(Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) and COURTNEY ZIMMERMAN(Leesburg/Fairfield) each put down 10 kills. Senior HEATHER RODMAN (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian) followed with six kills and no errors on just 10 attacks. Conducting the offense was senior SHAUNA ROWLAND (Bucyrus/Wynford) with 38 assists.
Zimmerman was also dominant at the net as she had four solo blocks, while Rodman added two solo blocks and three block assists. Senior MANDI LEEMASTER (Fremont/Old Fort) led the team in digs with 12 while Streicher chipped in eight digs and sophomore HEATHER SCHIERER (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) added seven digs. Freshman HAILEY PHILLIPS (Malinta/Patrick Henry) contributed two service aces.
Bluffton competes Saturday evening at 5 p.m. against #2 seed Mt. St. Joseph at tournament host Transylvania University.
