HCAC-leading Transylvania squeaks out narrow win over Beavers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Sunday's matchup pitted Bluffton University agianst the top team in the Heartland Conference, the Transylvania Pioneers. Bluffton came up just short, losing in four intense sets (25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23) and leaving the Beavers at 12-12 on the season (2-3 HCAC). The visitors improved to 15-11 and 6-0 in the conference.

Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) was on fire, hitting a stellar .500 with a career-high 18 kills for the match. Fellow freshman Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) pounded 12 bombers and senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) added 10 kills. Freshman Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield/Madison) set up the offense with 46 assists. 

Defensively speaking, junior libero Hailey Phillips (Malinta/Patrick Henry) led the team with 13 digs while Schierer picked up nine digs.

The Beavers head to Richmond, Ind., to play Heartland Conference foe Earlham College on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The contest is slated for 7 p.m.
