Bluffton sweeps Defiance 3-0

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Beavers came out swatting against the visiting Yellow Jackets of Defiance in the "Battle for Purple Supremacy" rivalry match! With an attendance of 500 the Sommer Center was a great atmosphere to play in on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The Beavers started quickly in set one, taking a 17-10 lead, and they only allowed the Yellow Jackets seven more points for the 25-17 victory. As set two was more of the same, the Beavers were firing on all cylinders as they hit .519 in another 25-17 win. With Bluffton on top two sets to none and senior Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) just four kills away from the career record, the Beavers entered set three ready to finish the match.

With an entire team effort, set three capped off the sweep with Bluffton crushing Defiance by a 25-16 count as Parmenter rocked the Jackets with six more hammers! The Beavers improved to 12-6 and 3-0 in the Heartland Conference following their ninth straight victory. Defiance fell to 6-15 and 1-1 in the HCAC .

Senior Kendra Parmenter had a match to remember, ramming home 17 kills while breaking the school record with a career total of 1330. Also getting it done for Bluffton offensively were the other three captains: MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) and LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) both finished with 11 kills and JENNY BROWN (St. Marys/Memorial) chipped in with 10. McFarlin did not register an error on 24 attacks as she hit .458 for the match. Brown and Parmenter hit .400 and .382, respectively.

ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) drove the offense with 43 assists, while SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima Central Catholic) cleaned up the floor with a match-high 21 digs. From the service line both ABBY ROHRBACH (New Knoxville) and BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) were unstoppable, finishing with three and two aces, respectively.

The Beavers travel to Lexington, Ky., this Friday, Oct. 9, to take on the Transylvania University Pioneers at 7 p.m.
