Bluffton caps Spiketacular with 3-1 mark

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Coming off a victory over Heidelberg on Friday afternoon, the Beavers continued to play together to win their first match of the day, a four-set Spiketacular victory over Kenyon (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, and 27-25) on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Leading the Beavers in their match-up with Kenyon with 17 kills and a .310 hitting percentage was MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland). Nipping at her heels was fellow senior captain Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) with 16 kills and a sterling.400 attack percentage on the match. Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 47 assists and picked up 11 digs. The defense was led by libero Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) who tallied 14 digs and Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) who added 11 digs.

The Beavers finished up the Sommer Center Spiketacular in the final match of the weekend against Thomas More College. Bluffton once again came out strong on all fronts and swept the Saints in three sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-21).

McFarlin again led the team offensively with 12 kills (.407) and four aces en route to All-Tournament Team honors. Lauren Weisgarber and Bethany Martini chipped in eight kills apiece. Erin Weisgarber paced the Beavers with 32 assists while also leading the team defensively with 12 digs. Sydney Mohler and Courtney Zimpfer (Jackson Center) contributed 11 and nine digs, respectively.

Bluffton finished 3-1 at the 4th annual Sommer Center Spiketacular, moving to 6-3 overall. The Beavers will return to competition next weekend at the College of Wooster for the Kilt Classic, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.
