Bluffton breezes through Wilmington with sweep of Quakers

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team rolled through Wilmington in three sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-8) on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Wilmington fell to 1-12, while the Beavers upped their season tally to 6-7 following their fourth straight victory.

Senior Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) was on fire from the start, hammering home 11 kills against three errors for a .348 hitting percentage. Table setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas) hit at a ridiculous .600 clip thanks to seven kills and one error on just 10 swings. Freshman Maddie White (Ashland) also torched the Quakers with seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) finished with nine winners, while Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) and Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) chipped in with eight spikes apiece.

Weisgarber notched 41 assists and she just missed out on a double double with nine digs. Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) and Brooke Kleman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) both went for double figures with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Bluffton jumps back into action with a trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational on Friday, Sept. 21. Mount Union is Bluffton's first opponont at Carnegie Mellon when the Beavers tip off at 2 p.m. Friday.
