Bluffton moves to 3-0 with wins over Adrian

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team lost the first set in each match, but the Beavers stormed back to take both contests with the Adrian College Bulldogs in four sets on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020. Bluffton improved to 3-0 with the Homecoming Day victories, while Adrian slipped to 3-6 on the season.

Senior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) led the attackers with 17 hammers in the first match. She also led the team with a career-high 23 digs. Freshman Alysha Like (McComb) and senior Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) added nine and eight kills, respectively. Junior Maddie White (Ashland) doled out 41 assists and was in on five blocks for the Beavers.

Picking up 15 digs was junior libero Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) who fired a team-best five aces in the opener. Senior Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) and sophomore Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) added 13 digs apiece. Like was a force at the net with seven blocks, including two solos, while sophomore Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) chipped in with four blocks.

Like got it done with a team-high 14 kills in the second match of the day while hitting at a .344 clip. She finished with a career-high eight blocks as well. Bower and Heydinger were in double figures with 13 and 11 putdowns, respectively. Campbell added seven spikes and five blocks for the winners.

White handed out 37 assists while picking up 16 digs. Kleman led the back row with 19 digs and she added four assists. Taylor and Bower came up with 15 and 13 digs, respectively, while Noel Ufferman (Marysville/Fairbanks) made her presence known with four blocks. Bower ripped four service aces, while Taylor and Like fired three aces apiece.

Bluffton jumps right back into action for the final time this fall when the Beavers travel to Manchester University for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.
