Beavers rally for five-set wins over Earlham

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team returned to the court for their first matches since October 25. Night one of Heartland Conference volleyball saw the Beavers rally twice from 2-0 deficits to take down Earlham in 10 heavyweight sets on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. Bluffton moved to 7-0 and 1-0 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham opened its season with an 0-2 mark.

Senior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) powered the home team in the first set, pounding 21 kills while firing a career-best five aces and picking up 12 digs. Sophomore Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and junior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) just missed out on double digits with nine kills apiece. 

Sophomore Elle Price (Findlay) doled out 33 assists for the victors. Bower was one of five women to notch double digits in pickups during the first match. Junior Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the Beavers with 17, while Chelsea Taylor (Hicksville) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) finished with 16 and 15, respectively. Price made it a double-double with 14 pickups of her own.

Everybody got involved in round two on Friday night as all 16 Beavers who were dressed made it into the lineup. Campbell was outstanding with 10 kills against just one error for a .346 hitting percentage in three sets.

Noel Ufferman (Marysville/Fairbanks) and Posey chipped in with eight and seven kills, respectively. Price dished out 19 assists in her three sets, while Ufferman handed out 11 helpers. Ufferman and Kleman chipped in with eight digs apiece, just one behind Price's nine pickups. Campbell was in on four blocks, while Bower and Price both rifled three service aces.

Despite digging a pair of two-set holes, the Beavers kept their season mark spotless (7-0), winning three straight sets twice on Friday night in front of a mammoth contingent of on-line viewers.
