Beavers rally back but fall at Adrian in five sets

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bluffton University volleyball team went down 2-0 and then rallied for the next two sets before dropping the clincher 15-10 on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. Bluffton slipped to 2-3, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-4 on the season.

The Beavers stormed back and took sets three and four by identical 25-22 scores after digging the 2-0 hole. However, a 10-kill, no error hitting display in the fifth set gave the Bulldogs their second victory of the season.

Cassidy Posey (Paulding) continued her impressive start to the season with 15 putaways and three blocks. Freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) pounded a career-best 13 winners against the Bulldogs while hitting .195 with five digs. Maddie White (Ashland) notched a triple double with 11 kills, 25 assists and 17 digs.

Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) and Kia Rainey (Adrian, Mich./Madison) both established new career highs with 22 and 15 digs, respectively. Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay (Ohio) dished out 20 helpers to go along with her 10 digs. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the defense with 33 digs and she also rifled three aces for the visitors. Sophomore Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) was in on three blocks.

Bluffton will head to Erie, PA, for a weekend at Penn State-Behrend on Friday, Sept. 10. The Beavers will tip off with Baldwin Wallace at 6 p.m. before an 8 p.m. showdown with the host Lions at 8 p.m.
