Bluffton caps off 3-1 weekend at Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team nearly toppled 10-2 Wooster in the opener on Saturday morning before demolishing Geneva in straight sets Saturday afternoon. It took the Fighting Scots 2:27 to get past Bluffton in five sets as senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) was on fire with a career-high 24 kills! Bluffton stands 6-8 on the season after going 3-1 over the weekend.

Bluffton saw a 23-20 lead in the opening set evaporate into a 25-23 loss and then they returned the favor in the fourth set as Wooster led 24-21 before five straight points for the visitors sent it to set five where the Fighting Scots came away with a 15-10 clinching victory.

Posey was nearly unstoppable with 24 kills and a .327 hitting percentage. Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and Alysha Like (McComb) followed with eight and seven winners, respectively. Junior Maddie White (Ashland) set up the Beavers with 29 assists and Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) chipped in with 11 helpers. 

Senior Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) continued to impress with 24 digs. White finished with 12 pickups, while Price and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) added 10 apiece. Sophomore Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) stuffed the Scots with a career-high six blocks and Like fired four aces.

Posey again led the way in Bluffton's rout of Geneva, hammering away with 13 kills in just three sets en route to being named to the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic All-Tournament Team. Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) was nipping at her heels with 10 counters. Just like match one, Campbell and Like added eight and seven kills, respectively. White found her teammates for 34 assists on Saturday afternoon.

Kleman was up to her old tricks with 18 digs and four service aces, while White helped the cause with 11 digs. Campbell had two solos and two block assists. Like finished with three block assists against Geneva.

Bluffton will hit the road again on Tuesday to start off another busy week. The Beavers make the short trip up Interstate 75 to tangle with NCAA Division II Findlay, Coach Yarnell's alma mater, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21.
