Bluffton takes down Wilmington in four sets

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Wilmington College took set one handily (25-19) before the Bluffton University volleyball team turned the tide in a 3-1 win over the Quakers on Wednesday, Sept. 22. One night removed from a battle with the University of Findlay, Bluffton recovered from a sluggish start, improving to 7-9 with its fourth win the past six matches.

The visitors needed extra time but the result was worth the wait as Bluffton won the final three sets (27-25, 26-24, 25-16) after hitting the road for the second time in as many days.

Junior Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) was on fire, driving home a career-high 15 kills against just three errors for red-hot .414 hitting percentage. Senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) was nipping at her heels with 14 winners of her own. Sophomore Alysha Like (McComb) and freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) added seven spikes apiece.

Maddie White (Ashland), who went over 1,000 career assists at Findlay last night, set the table with 35 helpers and she added eight digs in the victory. Like fired three of Bluffton's 12 aces on Wednesday night and she was in on four blocks. Waxing the floor with a match-high 25 digs was senior standout Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) who recently eclipsed 1,500 career digs! Junior Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) was a jack of all trades with 14 pickups, seven assists and two aces.

Bluffton will make the short trip to Ada on Saturday, Sept. 25, for a tri-match at #12 Ohio Northern. The Beavers tip off with Capital at 1 p.m. before matching wits with the host Polar Bears at approximately 3 p.m.
