Bluffton splits on day one at Cedar Point

SANDUSKY, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Sandusky, Ohio for the inaugural Great Lakes Cross Over on Friday, Sept. 2. It was a trip to Cedar Point, but it was all business as the Beavers kicked off the 2022 campaign with a five-set loss to St. Mary's (Ind.) and a four-set win over Waynesburg (Pa.).

Seniors Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and Alysha Like (McComb) hammered home 13 and 10 kills, respectively, in the opener. Maddie White (Ashland) doled out 41 assists and added nine winners of her own to go along with five blocks. Like and Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) both stuffed St. Mary's with four blocks.

Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) picked up a team-high 15 digs, while fellow freshman Mackenzie Jones (Oregon/Clay) added 13. Senior Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) also netted double figures with 11 digs.

White, Organ and sophomore Julianne Kincaid (Galion/Northmor) all smacked nine kills in the win over the Waynesburg. White and Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay (Ohio) handed out 19 and 10 assists, respectively.

Organ again led the Beavers with 13 digs, while White was one off the pace with 12 pickups. Like got it done at the net with three blocks. Jones fired four service aces at the Jackets.

Bluffton will tee it up at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning when the Beavers take on Thiel before a 2 p.m. matchup with Mennonite rival EMU caps off the trip to Cedar Point at 2 p.m.
