Beavers put the hammer down in win over Quakers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University and Wilmington College teamed up to give fans in the Sommer Center a real treat on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022. The match went four sets and the Beavers came away with a hard-fought victory over the Quakers, improving to 9-4 with their fourth consecutive victory.

The only set with any separation was the third as the Beavers opened up a 21-11 lead, but even that one saw Wilmington force a home timeout when the Quakers pulled within six (23-17). Set two went 29-27 in favor of the visitors, while the clincher was 25-23 Bluffton.

Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) rammed home a career-high 17 winners against just two measly errors for a ridiculous .517 hitting percentage. Also lighting up the Quakers with a career-high 14 kills was sophomore Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) who hit .423 thanks to only three errors on 26 swings.

Alysha Like (McComb) and Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) slammed 12 and 11 kills, respectively. They also led the way with four and three blocks on the night. Senior Maddie White (Ashland) handed out 34 helpers, while Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) finished with 19 assists. 

Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) led the back line with 25 digs, sparkling in her new role as the libero! White picked up 16 digs and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) chimed in with 12 pickups. Lindsey Shaw just missed out on double figures with nine digs. Shaw, White and Weekly all fired two aces at the Quake show.

Bluffton will be right back in the Sommer Center on Friday, Sept. 23, when Rochester College from New York comes to town for night one of the Beaver Fall Classic. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
