Rose-Hulman takes down Bluffton in five sets

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team went the distance but Rose-Hulman took set five 15-8 for a 3-2 victory on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022. Bluffton slipped to 15-9 and 3-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Rose improved to 11-11 and 3-4 in the HCAC.

After the teams split a couple down-to-the wire sets, RHIT rolled to a 25-14 victory in the third. Bluffton evened the match at two sets apiece with a 25-22 win, but the visitors dominated the fifth to the tune of a 15-8 shellacking.

Senior Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) rammed home 13 kills to lead the Bluffton offense. Alysha Like (McComb) and Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) followed with 11 winners, while Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) hit .304 with 10 putaways.

Freshman Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) doled out a career-high 28 assists and senior Maddie White (Ashland) added 22 helpers. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) rounded up 23 digs, while Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) and White added 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Like led the way with six blocks, including a pair of solos. Weekley fired three aces at the Engineers.

Bluffton will make the short trip to Defiance on Wednesday, Oct. 26, for a 6:30 matchup with the rival Yellow Jackets.
