BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team delighted the Sommer Center faithful with an exciting 3-1 victory over Kenyon College in the home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023. Bluffton improved to 2-3, while the Owls slipped to 2-3 on the season.
Bluffton opened with a back-and-forth 28-26 win in the lidlifter before the visitors returned the favor with a 25-23 equalizer in set two. Enter senior Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) and the rest was history! She pounded seven kills against just one error for a white-hot .500 hitting percentage as the Beavers won 25-19 and 27-25 for home-opening win!
Sophomore Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) blistered the Owls with 15 kills, while freshman Chloe Sample (Springfield/Catholic Central) added 12 putaways. Kasey Sager (Troy) and Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) chimed in with eight and six kills, respectively.
Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) and Ella Taylor (Urbana) doled out 22 and 21 assists for the victors. Sample led the back line with 15 digs, while Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) and Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) chipped in with 10 pickups apiece. Organ fired three aces for the Beavers.
Bluffton heads to Muhlenberg College for the Buttermaker Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9. Match one is slated for 5 p.m. against Bard on Friday night.
