Bluffton splits on day one at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Bluffton University volleyball team split its day one matches at the Buttermaker Tournament on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023. Bard was no match for the Beavers as Bluffton won its third straight contest with a four-set victory. Host Muhlenberg then downed the Beavers in straight sets Friday night.

Senior Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) picked up where she left of Wednesday night, smashing a career-high 12 kills against just one error for a ridiculous .579 hitting percentage! Freshman Kasey Sager (Troy) also packed a punch with a career-high 10 putaways in match one. Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) added six kills apiece.

Ella Taylor (Urbana) had the offense humming with 22 assists. Fellow freshman Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) chimed in with 13 helpers. Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) rifled five of Bluffton's 14 aces and she led the back line with 16 digs. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) did her part with 11 pickups. Trout and Bekah Pack (Lexington) were in on four blocks apiece.

Host Muhlenberg had Bluffton's number from the start, taking the Beavers down in three quick sets. Woods and Barnett tallied six kills each in the final match of the day. Taylor and Fluharty dished out nine assists apiece. Lawhorn finished with 13 digs and Pack led the way up front with four blocks.

Bluffton will battle Ursinus and Eastern on Saturday in day two of the Buttermaker Tournament. May the churn be with them.
