Beavers down Olivet at Sommer Center Spiketacular

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team won a five-set slugfest with Olivet in the opener before Geneva made quick work of the Beavers on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023. Bluffton stands 4-10 after a 1-3 weekend at the Sommer Center Spiketacular.

The Beaver hitters put up some gaudy numbers in the win over Olivet. Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) led the way with 15 hammers. Sophomore Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) rammed home 13 winners, while senior Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) and freshman Kasey Sager (Troy) added 11 kills apiece. Sager had only two errors on 25 swings for a pert .350 hitting percentage.

Freshman Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) set up the front line with a career-high 48 assists! She joined Woods on the Spiketacular All-Tournament Team. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) kept the ball in play with 26 digs. Also doing the dirty work was freshman Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) who chipped in with 18 pickups. Bekah Pack (Lexington) was in on a career-best five blocks.

Armentrout topped the home team with five kills in the loss to Geneva. Fluharty chimed in with 16 assists, while Organ finished with five digs.

Bluffton will be right back in the Sommer Center on Wednesday, Sept. 20, for a 7 p.m. clash with the College of Wooster.
