Bluffton cuts through Wooster in three sets

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team bounced back from 1-3 weekend with a convincing sweep of Wooster on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Beavers improved to 5-10 on the season while the visitors fell to 6-5 overall.

Bluffton rolled out to a 22-13 lead in the opener and held on for a 25-21 victory when junior Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) put the hammer down on set point. The home team trailed 21-17 in set two when the Beavers started trading two points for one en route to a come-from behind 26-24 win that had the crowd on its feet! With the third set hanging in the balance, Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) went to service line for three straight acers before sophomore Paige Massie (Alvada/Arcadia) put it out of reach with seven consecutive serves!

Senior Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) was on fire with 11 kills and a .381 hitting percentage. Barnett followed with nine hammers, while Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) and freshman Kasey Sager (Troy) chimed in with seven kills and four blocks. Sager did not have an error on her 11 swings, blistering the Fighting Scots with a .636 hitting percentage!

Handing out 26 dimes was freshman Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway). Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) picked up a team-high 13 digs, while Lawhorn rifled a career-high six aces!

Bluffton hit at a red-hot .316 clip and ripped 10 aces at the Scots. The Beavers also added five blocks and 41 digs.

The Beavers travel to Manchester University for matchups with Concordia Chicago and Alma on Saturday, Sept. 23. The lidlifter is slated for 11 a.m.
