Beavers fall to JCU and Wilmington

The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Wilmington College for a tri-match against the Quakers and John Carroll on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Beavers fell to the Blue Streaks 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20) and then dropped a 3-1 decision (30-28, 17-25, 25-11, 25-13) to Wilmington in match two. The Beavers dropped to 5-15 following the tri-match.

Powering the Beaver offense in match one against JCU was freshman Kasey Sager (Troy) with 10 kills. Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and Bekah Pack (Lexington) were just three off her pace with seven apiece. Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) added six spikes to her stat line. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy), Kennedy Parker (Lima/LCC/Malone) and Kaylei Barnett (Wapakoneta) all tallied two aces in the loss.

Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) dished out 28 assists in the opener. Fluharty also powered the defense with Organ, both picking up 12 digs for the Beavers. K. Barnett and Ella McCombs (Springfield/Southeastern) tallied nine and eight pickups, respectively. Sager stuffed John Carroll with four blocks

The match two offense was led by C. Barnett, Woods, and Sager, all with eight kills apiece. Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) and Pack contributed four smackdowns each. Fluharty dished out 21 helpers in the loss. Organ added three service aces to her stat line.

Organ powered the defense again in match two with 11 digs. Fluharty was two off her pace with nine. Sager added three blocks to her Wilmington stats.

The Beavers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Anderson University. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Go Beavers!
