
GAMBIER, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team went the distance in a five-set win at Kenyon that marked program victory #1,000 for the Beavers! Bluffton moved to 4-1 on the season, while the Owls of Kenyon fell to 0-4.
The visitors took set number one, 25-20, and had leads of 23-21 and 15-10 in the second and third sets, but Kenyon used a pair of late runs to take a 2-1 lead over the Beavers. Bluffton bounced back with a 25-19 victory that sent it to the fifth where the Beavers left nothing to chance with a dominating 15-7 shellacking in the clincher.
Wowing the Beaver Faithful who traveled to Gambier was sophomore Chloe Sample (Springfield/Catholic Central) who tagged Kenyon for a career-high 20 hammers! She hit a blistering .364 for the match. Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) and Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) spanked 12 and 11 kills, respectively, making it three Beavers in double figures. Kasey Sager (Troy) rammed home nine kills against only one error on just 12 swings for a ridiculous .667 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) set up the Beavers with a career-best 50 assists. She was one of five from Bluffton with double digits in digs, picking up 15 on Wednesday night. Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) led the way with 19 pickups, while Kaylei Barnett (Wapakoneta), Saniyah Terry (Macomb, MI/L Anse Creuse HS North) and Ashlie Nuss (St. Mary's/Memorial) all chipped in with at least 11 digs.
Sager and Woods were in on eight and six blocks, respectively, as the Beavers stuffed Kenyon no fewer than 12 times! Williams fired three aces at the home team.
Bluffton will now take its talents to the Blue Angel Bash in Milwaukee, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 6. The Beavers meet up with Marantha Baptist, Ripon, Lawrence and host Mount Mary as they travel to cheese capital of the world.
